Sweet Endings for Unforgettable Events

By: Stacy Fitzgerald-Redd

Early in 2019, TME President and CEO Christina Taylor decided to offer a unique option to the company’s existing clients: a custom confectionary food truck that would deliver a memorable ending — a sweet-treat sendoff for event guests.

The idea proved quite the challenge, but also showcased the creativity and attention-to-detail that are the hallmarks of TME as a powerhouse event management company. I spoke this week with Christina about the company’s new offering, which recently rolled out (pun intended) at a private engagement – more than two years after she had the initial idea.

Why a food truck?

“Food trucks have been experiencing a boom in popularity in 2019, and they remain popular today, as you can witness any day of the week in downtown DC,” Christina said. “I thought at the time it would be a great way to offer our clients a unique and unforgettable option for their events by sending their guests off with a sweet treat to cap the event and that is how the idea for So-So Sweets was born.”

How did you come up with the name?

“The food truck is named after my five-year-old daughter, Sofia, whom my team nicknamed ‘So-So.’

What was the experience of creating a food truck like?

“I knew nothing about food trucks or how to renovate them, but thankfully, I found an amazing company, Hamilton Works in Fredericksburg, VA that found one, renovated it, and created the gorgeous interior and exterior. That took nearly a year to complete and was finished in March of last year, just in time for the COVID-19 shutdown.

“With all in-person events canceled because of the pandemic, the finished truck sat in a garage for a full year, but I’m so happy to finally be able to offer it to our clients now that things are opening back up. We recently used the food truck for our first engagement. It was a huge success.”

What kind of events would you gear this toward?

“The wonderful thing about So-So Sweets is that everyone loves dessert and it’s a great way to end events and meetings of all kinds – be they corporate or social. We plan to offer this to our existing clients for their events and promote So-So Sweets for stand-alone social functions as well.”

“With many businesses planning a return to the office right after the Labor Day holiday, our beautiful truck could be a fun option as a ‘welcome back’ client-, or employee-appreciation function.”
